TweedLove Bike Festival, 14-30 May

We can’t wait for the start of TweedLove 2016 this weekend – quite simply the biggest, friendliest bike festival in the UK, with a fortnight of exhilarating events for every age and ability of rider. Look out for the brand new Shimano TweedLove International Enduro race weekend, plus plenty of other highlights. www.tweedlove.com

Ruff Dugger, 21 May, Traquair House

A kind of Mighty Deerstalker but with dogs, the Ruff Dugger is a brand new obstacle-laden trail run for adventurous runners and their pooches – held in the stunning surroundings of Traquair House. Billed as a test of determination and team work between owner and dog, participants at Traquair will tackle a course full of natural obstacles, from river crossings and mud pits to ancient woodland features, before navigating a rather famous man-made puzzle – the largest hedged maze in Scotland. Sounds brilliant! www.ruffdugger.co.uk

Traquair Medieval Fayre, 28–29 May, Traquair House

The Traquair Medieval Fayre returns with a marvellous line-up of medieval merriment for all ages in the grounds of Traquair, Scotland’s oldest inhabited house. This year’s event will be a truly authentic Medieval Fayre that celebrates the marriage and gift of the house by the Earl of Buchan to his son, James Stuart, who became 1st Laird of Traquair in 1491. A Grand Tournée will take place on the wineglass lawn with combat displays, a battle of the shields and grand melée finale, while there will also be jousting, tilting, a medieval market, great food, craft demos and loads of fun and games for kids. www.traquair.co.uk/traquair-medieval-fayre
